Royal Ambulance Hosts Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive

San Leandro, CA, October 22, 2009—Royal Ambulance, in partnership with Be The Match, a national marrow donor program, is hosting an all daydonor registry drive. In an effort to get more people to join the registry, Royal Ambulance will be providing food, handing out raffle prizes, and offering tours of their facilities and state of the art ambulances.

For a successful transplant, a patient needs a matching donor. Because the markers used in matching are inherited, patients are more likely to match someone from their own race or ethnicity. Adding more donors and cord blood units from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to the Be The Match Registry increases the likelihood that all patients will find the match they need.

"We are hoping that this event will help Be The Match generate additional donors from a variety of backgrounds and will provide an opportunity for our community to come together for a very important cause”.

Royal Ambulance’s marrow drive will be hosted by Behnoush Babzani, one of Royal’s EMTs. Behnoush is a young woman whose life has been saved by a bone marrow transplant. In return she is hoping to save the lives of others. Royal Ambulance firmly believes in supporting their employees and encourages everyone who is part of their organization to give back to the community.
